The Calligraphe Brand

The trademark "Calligraphe" appeared in 1899. In this year the trademark "Calligraphe" was registered to be used as a signature for notebooks, single and double sheets of paper. Manufactured and sold in the French provinces of Alsace and Franche-Comté.

At the very beginning of the 20th century Calligraphe was already famous for the quality of its products outside of its original production aera. Tens of millions of French children in continental France, overseas, and in the French colonies have used these notebooks to learn how to write. This was what the famous French novelist Colette wrote in her book "Mes apprentissages" published in 1936: ..... " my school notebooks, their sheets of laid paper, their gray rulling, their red margin, their black linen spine, their covers adorned with the name "Le Calligraphe".....
