Clairefontaine and Papeteries SILL Force 8 donated 453,245 euros, or nearly 50 million Moroccan Dirhams, towards the Moroccan Government and UNICEF's cooperation programme for education.
After a donation of 226,000 euros in 2006, Clairefontaine remains committed to supporting UNICEF in Morocco. Its major objective in this country is to increase school attendance rates and fight school dropout by making school a pleasant place that attracts children and reassures parents.
Mrs Rhyzlène Nusse, Communication Manager at Clairefontaine, hands over the 453,245 euros cheque to Mrs Maie Ayoub von Kohl, UNICEF's representative in Morocco, Mrs Latifa El Abida, General Secretary of the Moroccan Ministry of Education, and Mr Clément Chauvet, representative of UNICEF France.
Since 2004 Clairefontaine's objective has been to give the Moroccan government the means with which to increase school attendance rates by 4% for children between the ages of 6 and 15 by fighting school dropout. In order to achieve this, the main focus is on improving school facilities and diversifying teaching.
This programme, carried out in collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Education, was initially launched in three regions: Tanger-Tétouan, Marrakech-Tensif-Haouz and Souss-Massa-Drâa. At the beginning of 2007, it was extended to the regions of Greater Casablanca and Rabat-Zemmour-Zaër.
In practice, thanks to Clairefontaine, 24,000 students in 1,200 elementary schools and 100 secondary schools will benefit from these measures over the next four years. In addition, 600 administrators will be trained in the quality procedure defined by UNICEF and the Moroccan government. These administrators will in turn be responsible for training over 60% of elementary school teachers.
